Let’s get one thing straight…. don’t be fooled by anything or anybody that doesn’t agree with some cardio training or cardio workout classes. There are so many benefits to cardio training and doing weekly cardio workout classes and it is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Your heart is a muscle and it does need training to keep it strong and as healthy as possible. How far should you push your limit is another very valid question, but for the point of this blog, we will stick to the point.

The heart is a muscle which beats all day long. The hearts purpose every single day is to keep pumping oxygenated blood around your body. If it stops beating, we will be in deep water very quickly. If that happens to any of us, we should all hope that there is somebody close by, who knows how to perform CPR correctly and have the knowledge to use a defibrillator properly if there is one available. In the interest of our customers reading this, our instructors at Fitbug, Junction 6, Castleknock are certified to perform CPR and are certified to use a defibrillator as you may have seen on our Facebook or Instagram page.

Cardio is crucial to heart health. We train our heart by doing anything which increases the beats per minute, intentionally or not. It doesn’t really matter what you decide to do. If you increase your heart rate by doing any activity…. you are exercising your heart. By increasing the beats per minute, you are increasing the oxygenated blood flow throughout your body. This improves performance and it can also help to reduce our resting heart rate. The fitter we are, the lower our resting heart rate can be, therefore it doesn’t need to work as hard.

We certainly hope we have excited you at the thought of living a healthier and fitter lifestyle with the addition of some weekly cardio workout classes! But, there are some guidelines you must take before starting a new cardio routine. Whilst cardio being amazing for living a healthy lifestyle, you need to start and take it at your own pace. Cardio can also produce stress on the heart so it is important to gradually build up to the level you want to be. Let’s put it this way, if you decided to run a marathon, would you just go out and run it? I doubt it… you will need to build up the strength in the muscles and gradually build up your cardiovascular system. If you try to do too much too quickly, you could end up in trouble especially if you have any heart problems. Don’t get carried away, don’t try to be the hero, don’t pretend you know it all…. As always, get some professional advice from a qualified doctor or trainer who can guide you in the right direction.
